Volume 5, January Edition, 2021

A Year of Challenge a Year of Hope!

We look forward to the future to continue our ministry

Last year presented many challenges for all of us, both in Nicaragua and world wide. Particularly for the School where the staff, students and parents had to look for other ways to continue the school year in the midst of the pandemics and had to adapt to the new reality. It is outstanding the efforts of the staff to cover the curriculum, by using different means because technology access is very limited. We also highlight the understanding of the parents and the efforts made by the students to meet the deadlines. Everybody was committed to comply with the sanitary measures to prevent being infected. We thank God that nobody who attended the facilities was infected by Covid-19 and the school year could be completed successfully.

We trust in God that this year will be better for everyone. The School has great plans for 2021. Enrollment for the three programs has started: Kindergarten, Elementary and High School. Make up tests will be served during the last week of January. Everyone who is able is invited to come to the School to know more about the different activities that will be carried out.

In January the Nicaraguans celebrate two special dates: On the 11th we remember the National Day of Education and on the 18th, we honor another anniversary of the birth of Ruben Dario, our great poet. He was an example of being an entrepreneur. He was self-educated, read every book that fell into his hands, learned how to speak and write in another language, such as French, and represented Nicaragua as a diplomat in Spain and Argentina. He is an example of how education is key for personal development and how to contribute to the country.

In this issue, we share the testimony of pastor Rex Thompson, a long-time friend of the School and of one of our graduates. According to the school calendar, the first day of classes will be  Monday, February 1. We place in our God and Creator’s hands the plans “looking to Jesus, the founder and perpetuator of our faith”. May God bless you!.

School Academic Excellence Recognized

Five of the school students recognized

The School was invited to participate in an event organized by the National Foundation of Culture “Reading is Living” (Leer es vivir) where five of our students were recognized for their dedication to study and achievement of excellent levels. They are: Priscilla Betzabé Bermúdez, of 3rd grade; Javiera Sarahi López Ruiz, of 4th grade; Samari Alejandra Hernández, of 5th grade; Francis Aimara López, of 6th grde and Linda Irania González, of 11th grade. We are thankful this ministry is blessed with your interest to be a part of the family with your willingness to help. The opportunity to create everlasting memories and give education to this community is priceless. Despite the pandemic and this years' challenges, we've fulfilled the duty scripture instructs us to do, by serving others. We continue to ask earnestly for your help to keep this ministry running

The event called National Encounter Ecoverde was held at the Cristo Rey School in San Marcos, Carazo on October 23, 2020. Both the School and the students were presented with certificates of recognition.

ALICIA AMPIÉ, GRADUATE
Nurse, Bachelor in Science

I started my studies from Kindergarten and graduated in 2010 at the Baptist School in La Concepción. All the academic knowledge, the formation in values and Christian principles contributed greatly in my studies at the Polytechnical University of Nicaragua, where I could graduate as a Registered Nurse.

All the values and knowledge instilled by the School are also fundamental in my career since I work as a nurse at the Baptist Hospital in Managua. My job requires humanism when serving others.

I thank all my teachers, especially Prof. Gilberto Aguirre for his great work and service to the School. I pray that the School continues serving the community.

CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2020!

On December 5th, 17 students graduated from the School, dedicating their ceremony to the memory of Prof. Gilberto Aguirre Escobar, founding president of the School. The activity which was very inspiring and colorful, was presided by the authorities of the School and of the Ministry of Education. The three best graduating students passed to the three best students of tenth grade the Nicaraguan Flag, the School Flag and the Bible. They all committed to honor God, the Homeland and the School always. Because of the preventive measures against Coronavirus, only two persons could accompany each student who all watch the splurge of talent shown by the dance group of folklore. May God bless you always and be your Guide to achieve your goals!

Our Link with the Baptist High School of La Concepción

Back in 2005, our church at Shoreham-by-Sea on the Sussex Coast, UK was looking at overseas projects for which we could create a long-term relationship. Here in Shoreham a connection with Amos Trust in London led us to the Baptist High School (or, as it is also known, the Avocado Tree School after the Avocado trees which grow in the grounds of the school). Since then, the church has raised about funds which have been forwarded to the school via Amos Trust for the payment of Social Security of the staff. Our fundraising includes regular giving by Church members, holding coffee mornings and the issue of boxes for collecting odd amounts of small change. The school has benefitted on a couple of occasions from donations from the profits of an Art and Craft Festival held each year in August. One of our best regular fundraisers is a fun quiz and buffet at the church, hosted by a couple of members, which has brought out competitive instincts from all participants as well as publicising the school.

In 2006, three members of the church visited the school and there have been 3 separate visits meaning that a total of eight people from Shoreham-by-Sea have travelled to Nicaragua since 2005. I have been four times. We have always been welcomed by the staff and pupils. Who can forget the delightful displays of dancing performed by such talented students and the shaking of hands afterwards? We have been able to visit the classrooms and enjoy the work on show there. I particularly remember one of the teachers showing one of the youngest classes how the solar system is made up. On one occasion, I was there when our group met with older students who were just about to graduate and told us of their plans for the future, as well as what the school family meant to them and how it encourages their commitment to Nicaragua. The whole atmosphere in the school is a tribute to the memory of Gilberto, to Mercedes the headmistress and the impressive staff members who have maintained it as a place of learning despite times that have not always made it easy.

We have also been delighted to host visitors from Nicaragua to Shoreham-by-Sea during the years. Gilberto has visited twice, once on his own and once with Dámaris. On his first visit, he came at a time when we had just finished renovating our church kitchen and he formally cut the tape to open the new kitchen. We have also received visits from members of CEPAD where Gilberto was Development Officer. Our link continues to be an enriching experience and also to allow us to hear about what is going on in Nicaragua. We pray for the future of the school and the staff and pupils.

Together we can make the difference

What you do matters

Your support to this school makes a direct impact to the bottom line of the school purpose and financials. Many of these students families are making the greatest effort to keep their kids in school through the challenges of COVID-19. The pandemic has hit hard in this community of La Concepción in Masaya and the contributions received are providing an opportunity for each student to be in class in a safe environment despite adversities.

Water Conservation & Campus Cleaning

The school has an additional hour during their day for students to appreciate nature sourrounding their campus. Not only students are taught about enviromental issues and actions but also are embassadors of environmental awareness to their community and families. These practices have become one of the school well-known staple.

Dance Group Classes

Amongst the different activities this school is involved, one of the well recognized school activity are the Dance Group Classes and Group performances. Our school enjoys great community and parents participations in every dance performance the students showcase every opportunity they get. The school shows healthy activities to the community while students develop their cultural education.

Principal's Corner

Looking back and going forward

We have reached the end of another school year and we are grateful to God that in the midst of these difficult times we were able to celebrate the graduation of our 6th graders and the 2020 High School Class. Two beautiful ceremonies were held in December 3rd and 5th, respectively. Seventeen students graduted from High School and 32 from Primary School. Enrollment for 2021 school year is open in the different programs: P-K 4, Kindergarden, Elementary School and Secondary School will be offered during the mornings. Additionally, English classes will be available starting from Kindergarden, as well as Computer Lab starting from 4th grade and Folkloric Dancing. I invite you to continue supporting this project of faith.
